Abstract

This study was conducted with the aim of analyzing the influence of the use of Relating, Experiencing, Applying, Cooperating, and Transferring (REACT) strategies on science learning outcomes in terms of students' critical thinking skills. In this research, it discusses the importance of teacher accuracy in choosing learning strategies, namely between REACT and conventional strategies and the importance of teachers to know student characteristics, one of which is the ability to think critically in improving student learning outcomes. The population in this study was all fifth grade elementary school students in Ciruas District, Serang Regency, Banten Province. Samples were taken using purposive sampling techniques totaling 62 students. Data on science learning outcomes are collected using the test method. Meanwhile, data on students' critical thinking ability were collected using the questionnaire method as preliminary data to identify students' critical thinking abilities. The data were analyzed using ANOVA with a 2 x 2 treatment design and continued using the Tukey test. The results showed that: (1) there was a difference in the influence between the use of REACT learning strategies compared to conventional learning strategies on science learning outcomes (F=59.294; p<0.05), (2) there were differences in science learning outcomes between students who had high critical thinking skills and students who had low critical thinking skills (F=6,588; p <0.05), (3) there is an influence of interaction between learning strategies and students' critical thinking ability on student science learning outcomes (F=80.706; p<0.05), (4) for students who have high critical thinking skills, science learning outcomes are higher when taught with REACT strategies compared to conventional strategies (F=16.684; p<0.05), and (5) for students who have low critical thinking skills, science learning outcomes are absent differences between students taught with conventional strategies compared to REACT strategies (F=1.283; p>0.05). So, it can be concluded that there is an interaction between learning strategies and students' critical thinking skills and to improve science learning outcomes in fifth grade elementary schools, the use of REACT strategies is more appropriately taught to students who have high critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Affective is one of the competencies that must be measured as part of successful learning. The achievement of this competency is influenced by several factors, such as the use of learning models and media. This study tries to reveal the effect of the STAD model assisted by audio-visual media on the attitude competence of students in science subjects in class VII junior high school. The method used is quasi experiment with purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation sheets and analysed using the Mann-Whitney U Test. The results revealed that learning in the experimental class showed better affective than the control class. So, it is concluded that the STAD model assisted by audio-visual media has a significant effect on the affective competence of students in science subjects.

Abstract

Communication and collaboration skills are part of the 21st century skills that are very important for students to possess. Science learning with certain characteristics can be a means to develop these abilities. The aims of this study were: 1) to develop a viable PhET-assisted inquiry-based electronic worksheets, (2) to find out the practicality of the developed products based on student responses, (3) to test the effect of using the product to increase communication skills, and (4) to test the effect of using the product to increase collaboration skills. This research was a Research and Development (R&D) with a 4-D model consisted of define, design, develop, and disseminate. Product trial design using one group pretest-posttest on 32 students of class VIII B at SMPN 05 Depok. The data collection instruments consisted of product validation sheets, student response questionnaires, communication skills observation sheets and collaboration skills observation sheets. The product viability data were examined qualitatively and quantitatively descriptively. The paired sample t-test and effect size analysis were used to check the effect of the product toward communication and collaboration skills. The results show that PhET-assisted inquiry-based electronic worksheets are: 1) declared suitable for use in science learning, (2) considered practical for use in science learning, (3) effective in improving communication skills, (4) effective in improving collaboration skills.

Abstract

The development of interesting learning media needs to be done because of the very rapid development of technology and coupled with the Covid-19 pandemic which requires the availability of attractive media so that it can help students in learning both face-to-face and virtual. The purpose of this research is to determine the level of success of the flashcard media provided as support for the learning process. The research used the ADDIE development approach. This method leads researcher in producing a product in the form of a flashcard to be tested and measured to assess its feasibility. The trial was conducted on 44 students at SMAN 1 Tangerang Selatan. Affective assessment shows very good criteria with an average of 84. The highest score is shown in a proactive attitude of 90 and the low score is shown in a polite attitude of 80. The process assessment has the lowest score obtained by students in the form of a playing score of 30 while the highest playing score is 75, in the learning process, the lowest score is with two types of assessment, namely the pre-test is 17 and the post-test is 36, the highest pre-test score is 45 while the post-test value is 98. Through the assessment, the percentage score obtained is N-Gain of 0.83. Learning during the Covid-19 pandemic must be accompanied by fun learning so that it is not boring and fosters enthusiasm for learning. Through flashcards students can learn and can become peer tutors for their friends.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the correlation of critical thinking skills with learning activities after the application of the flipped classroom-PjBL learning model. The sample used in this study were students who took the assessment of the process and learning outcomes of chemistry class C in the 2022/2023 academic year of the Jambi University Chemical Education Study Program. The research method used is the correlation method with a quantitative approach. Research data were obtained using a questionnaire before and after the application of the flipped classroom-PjBL learning model to data on critical thinking skills and student learning activities. The questionnaire on critical thinking consists of 5 statements, while the questionnaire on learning activity consists of 10 statements. Data regarding critical thinking skills and learning activities were carried out Pearson correlation test to determine the relationship between the dependent variables, the correlation level of critical thinking skills and learning activities was carried out product-moment correlation test. The results of this study are that there is a very good correlation between students' critical thinking skills and learning activities after the application of the flipped classroom-PjBL learning model, the correlation level of critical thinking skills to learning activities is very high with a value of 0.813.

Abstract

This study aimed to improve the results and learning responses of class VIII-F students of SMPN 1 Ngasem through the application of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) learning model. The subjects in this study were class VIII-F students of SMPN 1 Ngasem with a total of 21 students. The type of research conducted was Classroom Action Research (PTK) which was conducted in two learning cycles. There are four stages in classroom action research, namely: (1) planning, (2) implementation, (3) observation, and (4) reflection. The data collection technique used in this study was the learning achievement test and student response questionnaires. The results of the study show that applying the project based learning model is quite effective in improving student learning outcomes. Based on the learning outcomes of the cognitive domain on science learning outcomes, it was found that the mastery learning conditions before the action (observation), cycle I, and cycle II showed a percentage of completeness of 28%, 57% and 76%. Besides that, through this learning model, a positive response was obtained from students who obtained an increase in the percentage of responses from cycle I and cycle II, which obtained a percentage of 67.5% which was included in the good criteria, and 83% which was included in the very good criteria. So, it can be concluded that learning science by applying the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model is able to improve the learning outcomes and responses of class VIII students.
